About the position

The Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (Suicide Prevention Coordinator) at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing the National Category I High Risk for Suicide Flagging program. This role involves providing direct patient care, coordinating case management for veterans assigned high-risk flags, and analyzing clinical program data to enhance service quality. The position requires collaboration with various teams and participation in committees to support the mission of the VA and the Veterans Health Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the National Category I High Risk for Suicide Flagging program within the Suicide Prevention Program.
  • Provide direct patient care and coordinate case management for Veterans assigned high risk flags.
  • Analyze and evaluate clinical program data to identify trends and needs for service enhancement.
  • Process crisis line referrals from the National Veterans Crisis Line within 24 business hours.
  • Complete issue briefs related to self-directed violence and track suicide behavior for performance improvement activities.
  • Support the mission, policies, and procedures of the VA and VHA.
  • Participate in committees, work groups, and task forces at various levels.
  • Maintain productivity and quality consistent with facility and clinical mental health standards.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must have a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • Five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.
