About the position

The Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor position is located within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. This role involves providing specialty outpatient care to Veterans diagnosed with various mental health conditions. The counselor will work collaboratively with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans, conduct assessments, and provide therapeutic services, ensuring continuity of care and effective support for Veterans' mental health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level skill in assessing and treating complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans with a wide range of mental health diagnoses.
  • Independently implement treatment modalities and provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families, and groups.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Offer psychosocial interventions and measure outcomes to interventions, coordinating community-based services as needed.
  • Participate in scheduling, triaging, and monitoring the flow of patients in the Mental Health Clinic (MHC).
  • Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families.
  • Coordinate same-day access for Veterans established within the BHIP Team and participate in routine team activities.
  • Conduct BHIP team huddles/meetings and manage patient referrals back to PACT teams.
  • Review DSS reports to identify patients needing assessments and treatment plan updates.
  • Function as a case manager for Veterans with multiple missed opportunities, determining the best management methods.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • Five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.
