About the position

The MIL Corporation is seeking a Senior Linux Administrator to oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux servers and associated systems. This role is crucial for managing large-scale Linux infrastructures and requires a commitment to continuous improvement, automation, and optimization. The position supports a Federal Government client and involves a hybrid work schedule with three days on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability
  • Install, configure, and manage server software, services, and applications
  • Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement solutions to ensure system reliability and efficiency
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls, access controls, and patch management
  • Develop and maintain scripts for automation of system administration tasks using tools like Bash, Python, or Ansible
  • Ensure regular backups and implement disaster recovery solutions to protect data integrity and availability
  • Configure and troubleshoot network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, and VPNs
  • Respond to and resolve system-related incidents, providing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines
  • Provide guidance and support to junior Linux administrators and other IT team members
  • Participate in and lead IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Linux system administration, focusing on Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar distributions
  • Proficiency in Linux server management, shell scripting, and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet)
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and network services
  • Experience with implementing and managing security measures, including SELinux, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead technical initiatives

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications such as RHCE, CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware, KVM, or Docker
  • Experience with administering databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle on Linux platforms
