About the position

The Senior Linux Systems Engineer will play a critical role in the Linux Golden Image project, focusing on the certification, hardening, and security of the operating system images. This position requires deep expertise in the Linux Operating System, particularly kernel knowledge, and involves leading the planning, design, development, implementation, and execution of Linux systems engineering within the company's datacenter. The ideal candidate will also drive the adoption of best practices in development and enhance platform capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the Linux 'golden image' initiative across the charter.
  • Support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Design, implement, monitor, enhance, and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas.
  • Analyze and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Test and review system designs.
  • Provide engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel, ensuring compliance with technical integration, changes, standards, and documentation.
  • Mentor and guide the work of technical staff.
  • Review work plans and designs, advising on improvements.
  • Adhere to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Follow company policy and procedures.
  • Multi-task and manage priorities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience in UNIX/Linux engineering.
  • Act as a Linux subject matter expert.
  • Solid Linux engineering, troubleshooting, testing, hardening, and performance tuning experience.
  • In-depth understanding of the Linux Kernel.
  • Solid experience with package management using JFrog Artifactory and satellite server.
  • Experience using RPM tools like ip, dnf, nmcli.
  • Experience using apt, ubiquity, debian installer, ufw.
  • Solid experience writing, reading, and understanding YAML and JSON files.
  • Solid automation/scripting skills in Perl, Bash, Python, or related languages.
  • Solid understanding of configuration management tools, such as Puppet and Chef.
  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and optimizing Linux file systems.
  • Working DevOps experience utilizing Ansible and Terraform.
  • Experience with vCenter, VMware OVF Tool, and HashiCorp Vault and Packer tools.
  • Knowledge of CIS Workbench hardening, Linux Test Project, and eliciting test cases.
  • Working experience with TestRail to streamline testing processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience in creating technical drawings and schematics using Lucidchart or Visio.
  • GitLab experience creating workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and setting variables.
  • Experience working in a SAFe/Agile environment utilizing Jira Portfolio/Jira Align to manage projects and daily tasks.
