About the position

The Senior Linux System Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining and ensuring the reliable operation of computer systems for the Department of Defense. This position involves in-depth analysis, technical support, and problem resolution for various IT systems, with a focus on Linux and Windows environments. The role requires on-site work and includes responsibilities such as system planning, performance analysis, and hardware upgrades, while also providing user support and overseeing system specifications and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure the reliable operation of computer systems, including workflows and configurations.
  • Perform in-depth analysis and technical support of systems, including complex problem resolution and user support.
  • Provide operating systems planning and evaluation for performance analysis, capacity planning, and hardware upgrades.
  • Oversee the implementation of system specifications, integration, testing, and documentation.
  • Exhibit strong technical skills related to multiple IT systems and storage technologies.
  • Perform installation, administration, troubleshooting, and support of server operating systems/services, storage, and Data Center solutions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience working in a Linux or Windows environment (Windows Server 2016/2019, RHEL, CentOS, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with systems and technology.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and issue resolution principles, methodologies, and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle and SQL database management.
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization, VMware or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • ITIL v3 Certification preferred
  • DoDI 8570.01m Certification required
