About the position

SAIC is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator for on-site support at the Advanced Scientific and Engineering Computer Center in Newport, RI. This role is critical in providing day-to-day operational and maintenance support for the ASECC at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). The Senior Linux System Administrator will be responsible for performing various system administration duties within a large Windows and Linux environment. This includes assisting in the implementation, support, and troubleshooting of Linux issues related to performance, compliance, and security hardening. The position requires a proactive approach to system management and a strong understanding of both Linux and Windows systems to ensure optimal performance and security of the computing environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing high-performance computing facilities, demonstrating the ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and test complex computer hardware and software systems. The role also involves scripting and automation, requiring proficiency in languages such as Bash and Python. Familiarity with job scheduling systems, particularly PBS, and licensing managers like FlexLM and LMX is also beneficial. The candidate must possess or be scheduled to take a Linux certification and must already hold a Security+ or IAT II level certification. This position does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters, but customer site vaccination requirements must be adhered to when work is performed at a customer site.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational and maintenance support of the ASECC at NUWCDIVNPT.
  • Perform system administration duties in a large Windows and Linux environment.
  • Assist in implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux issues related to performance and compliance.
  • Ensure security hardening of systems is maintained.
  • Manage, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and test complex computer hardware and software systems.
  • Utilize scripting languages and automation techniques to improve system efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years or more experience; years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience implementing and supporting Red Hat or similar distributions of Linux.
  • Experience working in a high-performance computer facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and test complex computer hardware and software systems.
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET level clearance.
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation techniques including Bash and Python.
  • Experience with job scheduling systems, PBS experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with licensing managers such as FlexLM and LMX.
  • Possession of Security+ or IAT II level certification.
  • Possession of Linux certification or scheduled to take the test.
