About the position

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator at BAE Systems will support the Navy's Department of Defense Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) by maintaining critical systems in both classified and unclassified environments. This role involves providing expert-level support for Linux infrastructure, ensuring system availability, reliability, and security in a high-performance computing (HPC) setting. The position requires collaboration with various infrastructure teams and adherence to DoD security standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full lifecycle support for the entire Linux infrastructure across classified and unclassified spaces.
  • Assist with the implementation and support of security policies to ensure compliance with DoD standards.
  • Perform troubleshooting and resolution of complex hardware and software issues.
  • Administer and support email servers in classified and unclassified environments.
  • Handle user management tasks, including account creation, permissions, and security protocols and tools such as Kerberos.
  • Collaborate with the networking team to ensure seamless integration and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3-6 years of experience preferred (additional experience may be substituted for the degree).
  • At least 4 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification required - Security and OS cert, Linux, RedHat, etc. (waiver may be provided to obtain the OS certification).
  • General knowledge of Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts as well as systems administration experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain documentation on system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting virtual machines, mass storage, and email servers.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls).
  • Familiarity with DoD security guidelines and requirements (STIGs, FISMA, etc.).
  • Experience with automation and scripting (Puppet, Ansible, Bash, Python, Perl).
  • Experience working in a classified environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and infrastructure issues.
