About the position

The position is for a legal professional within TikTok's Global Litigation team, responsible for managing litigation matters and providing legal guidance to support the company's innovative initiatives. The role involves handling general litigation, supervising outside counsel, and advising on litigation risks to minimize exposure. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in litigation, particularly in technology or media sectors, and will contribute to TikTok's mission of inspiring creativity and bringing joy.

Responsibilities

  • Handle general litigation, pre-litigation claims, and all related matters.
  • Manage all aspects of litigation matters including e-discovery, fact-finding and analysis, witness preparation, depositions, case management conferences, motion practice, and arbitration or trial preparation and presentation.
  • Supervise and partner with outside counsel to ensure that all aspects of the company's legal representation are of the highest quality, including the day-to-day running of matters, overall strategy, written work, and oral advocacy.
  • Identify potential litigation risk and counsel the business to minimize exposure.
  • Support the company's strategy for litigation and pre-litigation disputes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
  • In-depth litigation experience in a combination of private practice and a corporate litigation department with a highly regarded firm and organization (tech or media, preferred).
  • Substantive experience with legal issues related to consumer-facing technology required.
  • Experience with individual and multistate attorney general enforcement actions and other litigation and/or experience with federal multi-district litigations required.
  • Ability to research complex legal questions. Demonstrated judgment, personal integrity, and inter-personal skills.
  • Strong ability to work as a team player who can effectively collaborate with colleagues from the Global Legal team and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including exceptional legal writing skills and the ability to craft persuasive and concise briefs.
  • Member in good standing of the New York or California bar association or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in New York or California.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with internal investigations, government or regulatory investigations, intellectual property litigation, platform liability, consumer litigation, class action, or arbitration.
  • Experience at or representing Internet technology and/or entertainment companies is strongly preferred.
