About the position

The Senior Litigation Paralegal position at Travelers Insurance involves performing a variety of complex paralegal duties, requiring a solid understanding of intricate legal issues. This role is essential in assisting attorneys and other legal professionals in the preparation and management of legal cases, particularly for moderate to complex matters. The paralegal will engage in legal research, conduct investigations, draft legal documents, and analyze relevant information to support the legal team effectively. The position demands a high level of organization and attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. In this role, the Senior Litigation Paralegal will conduct moderate to complex legal research and prepare legal documents for attorney review. Responsibilities include compiling and drafting various legal documents such as motions for summary judgment, discovery responses, and subpoenas. The paralegal will also summarize deposition transcripts, assist in trial preparation, and prepare exhibits and demonstrative evidence. Additionally, the paralegal will categorize and interpret data, conduct investigations, and coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation. The position requires the ability to utilize technology efficiently to respond to discovery requests and manage case summaries and analysis reports. The Senior Litigation Paralegal may also provide testimony at depositions or trials and will be responsible for locating archived materials and processing bills for payment. This role is critical in ensuring that the legal team is well-prepared and organized, contributing to the overall success of the litigation process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct moderate to complex legal research and analyze to prepare legal documents.
  • Assist with projects as requested.
  • Compile and/or draft routine to complex legal documents for review and use by attorneys such as motions for summary judgment, discovery responses, subpoenas, and/or privilege logs.
  • Prepare and execute affidavits.
  • Summarize deposition transcripts and assist attorneys in deposition preparation of witnesses up to and including trial preparation.
  • Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence.
  • Assist attorney in every aspect of trial strategy and preparation and share in the responsibility of trial results.
  • Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses, and records.
  • Conduct investigations including interviews as needed and directed.
  • Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation.
  • Use resources to identify and select subject matter experts and provide instruction on areas to address.
  • Prepare and publish legal holds.
  • Prepare case summaries and/or case analysis reports.
  • Subpoena records.
  • Coordinate with Document Management to obtain underwriting files and certified policies.
  • Provide testimony at depositions or trial, including as a corporate designee regarding company practices and procedures.
  • Locate archived materials in a variety of formats such as microfilm and microfiche.
  • Review and process bills for payment.
  • Capture time and record billable time in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Utilize technology to respond efficiently to discovery requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal or related experience required.
  • Paralegal or litigation experience preferred.
  • Insurance related experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Highly proficient in using legal research software (e.g. Westlaw, Pacer), Microsoft Office, and PDF Software.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced grammar and writing skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general law office procedures and advanced knowledge of local court/jurisdiction rules and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks effectively.
  • Advanced research and analytical skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and online research such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Ability to learn proprietary software systems.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-Certified program.
