About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. The Ads Targeting team plays a crucial role in helping advertisers reach their desired audience and optimize advertisement performance. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in the Ads Targeting, Ads Core team, you will be responsible for applying advanced machine learning models to enhance ad targeting products. This involves scaling budgets by understanding user interests and intentions, as well as building robust data processing and serving foundations for next-generation ad targeting solutions. The team is engaged in various innovative projects, including custom audience targeting, interest and behavior analysis, lookalike modeling, and auto-targeting features. In this role, you will be tasked with improving the existing delivery system to align with advertisers' true business objectives, focusing on user value and return on investment (ROI). You will collaborate with a global team of talented engineers and work closely with cross-functional teams to establish meaningful connections between users, advertisers, and TikTok. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art applied machine learning projects and to own key targeting components within TikTok's ads monetization ecosystem. You will also be involved in building scalable platforms and pipelines that support the ads targeting products while working alongside product and business teams to shape the product vision.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Operation Research, Applied Mathematics, Physics or similar quantitative fields, with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, deep learning, statistical models and applied mathematical methods.
  • Strong coding skills, especially in Python/C++/Go. Experience with high-load systems.
  • Familiarity with online experimentation and analytics.
  • Familiarity with big data systems including Hadoop and Spark.
  • Curiosity towards new technologies and entrepreneurship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in reinforcement learning, transfer learning, and counter-factual optimization is a plus.
  • Understanding of the business value of online advertising.
  • Experience with user modeling using deep learning methods from large scale datasets. Experience with privacy preserving modeling techniques is a plus.
  • Experience in developing modern ads ranking/retrieval/targeting systems and recommender systems.
