About the position

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Autonomy Data) at Aurora, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our self-driving technology. Your primary focus will be on developing new autonomy performance metrics and actor models tailored to our diverse use cases. This position requires a deep understanding of machine learning workflows, including data collection, processing, and the necessary infrastructure to support these processes. You will collaborate closely with partners in the Motion Planning and Software Validation teams to gain insights into their specific use cases and constraints, which will inform your projects and technical approaches. Additionally, you will work alongside the Core Simulation team to integrate core functionalities that support our actor models. In this collaborative environment, you will also be responsible for developing tools that facilitate the visualization and extraction of insights from the models you create and run. Your contributions will extend to supporting your team through code reviews and sharing innovative ideas, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated, can work independently in a fast-paced environment, and is adept at navigating problem ambiguity and change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new autonomy performance metrics and actor models to serve various use cases.
  • Support the ML model development workflow, including data collection and processing.
  • Collaborate with Motion Planning and Software Validation teams to understand their use cases and constraints.
  • Work with the Core Simulation team to add core functionalities required for actor models.
  • Develop tooling for visualization and extraction of insights from models.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute ideas in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in CV/ML model building, including data preparation, training, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of robotics-related domains, with a strong preference for Motion Planning experience.
  • Familiarity with simulation in other domains such as perception, manipulation, or controls.
  • Proficiency in Pytorch or Tensorflow, and Jupyter.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or machine learning-related areas.
  • MS/PhD with 3+ years of experience may also be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience deploying ML models in production environments.
  • Publications in top-tier conferences.
