About the position

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer II in Perception at Cruise, you will lead impactful projects that tackle the unique challenges of urban driving environments. This role involves cross-functional collaboration to architect and implement machine learning technologies that enhance autonomous vehicle development. You will take technical ownership of complex projects, ensuring alignment with business needs while enabling your team to deliver effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with various teams to architect and implement technologies for large-scale machine learning and autonomous vehicle development.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of complex technical projects related to machine learning system training and evaluation.
  • Identify problems in the perception stack and develop long-term software solutions for training and evaluating perception models.
  • Initiate and lead new projects, balancing technology tradeoffs based on business needs.
  • Enable other engineers on the team to be more effective through easy-to-extend design and code.
  • Influence others and build consensus in technical discussions.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading technical teams in cross-functional projects.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ for developing and optimizing production-quality machine learning systems.
  • Strong grounding in computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
  • Track record of driving machine learning engineering projects from start to completion.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in machine learning, computer science, or robotics vision.
  • 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning.
  • Experience with ROS, OpenCV, Gazebo, CUDA, or PCL.
  • Experience in deploying perception algorithms and models into real-world environments.
  • Growing expertise with autonomous driving technologies.
