About the position

Atlassian is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a focus on statistics to join the Core Machine Learning team. This role involves developing and implementing advanced machine learning algorithms to enhance revenue generation and provide sophisticated forecasting for company metrics. The position emphasizes collaboration across various teams and the application of cutting-edge techniques in a distributed-first work environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive the development and implementation of machine learning algorithms.
• Build scalable, reliable, and highly performant forecasting algorithms.
• Collaborate with business, engineering, and analytics teams.
• Quantify business problems and develop models for evaluation.
• Provide guidance to junior ML engineers.
• Explain models and algorithms effectively to business partners.

Requirements

• Master or PhD in a quantitative subject (Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research) or relevant work experience.
• 5 years of industry experience in forecasting and machine learning.
• Experience building and scaling forecasting and machine learning models using large datasets.
• Familiarity with time series modeling, Bayesian modeling, or anomaly detection.
• Ability to communicate data science concepts to diverse audiences.
• Expertise in Python and ability to write performant code; familiarity with SQL, Spark, and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks).
• Agile development mindset with a focus on constant iteration and improvement.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in consumer or B2C space for a SaaS product provider or enterprise/B2B space.
• Experience writing production-quality code and using CICD pipelines.
• Ability to solve ambiguous and complex problems.
