About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer position at Apple focuses on leading the Online Retail Decision Automation team to develop advanced algorithms that enhance the Apple Online Store experience. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to create scalable machine learning solutions that improve product search, recommendation systems, and personalization, ultimately aiming to deliver a magical shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Build performant production applications with high throughput.
• Read academic papers, apply novel ideas to our problem space, and present findings to stakeholders.
• Mentor other machine learning engineers and stay updated with the latest advances in machine learning and software engineering.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of ML infrastructure and tooling.

Requirements

• 10+ years of related experience, including 5+ years in machine learning.
• Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience building highly scalable distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with building data processing pipelines and large scale machine learning systems.
• Deep understanding of the machine learning model lifecycle from prototyping to continuous improvements.

Nice-to-haves

• Ph.D. or Masters in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
• Experience in Recommender Systems, Personalization, Search, or Natural Language Processing.
• Skilled in communication, problem solving, and critical thinking.
• Experience with Deep Learning, Bandits, Probabilistic Graphical Models, or Reinforcement Learning.
• Familiarity with Spark, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
