About the position

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer at General Atomics is responsible for developing and deploying advanced machine learning algorithms to enhance the performance of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This role involves working in a dynamic environment to create autonomous systems that can execute complex missions, utilizing a variety of machine learning techniques and programming languages. The position requires collaboration with technical teams and external partners to integrate innovative technologies into the autonomy stack, while maintaining a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and communicates descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights/algorithms of limited scope.
  • Uses machine language and statistical modeling techniques to develop and evaluate algorithms for product/system improvement.
  • Translates algorithms and technical specifications into code using programming languages and technologies.
  • Completes programming, testing, debugging, and documentation for installation and maintenance.
  • Applies deep learning technologies to enable computers to visualize, learn, and respond to situations.
  • Leads technical teams and scopes projects into executable sprints.
  • Drives code reviews to ensure adherence to DevSecOps and MLOps best practices.
  • Adapts machine learning to areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and robotics.
  • Interfaces with external vendors and partners to integrate their technology into the autonomy stack.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, master's degree or PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree or three or more years with a master's degree in machine learning engineering.
  • Advanced understanding of machine learning concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated history of applying novel technical solutions in fast-evolving product areas.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with decision trees, logistic regression, Bayesian analysis, and other statistical modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and MLOps best practices.
  • Experience in virtual reality, augmented reality, and robotics.
