About the position

The Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University's Secure AI Lab focuses on conducting research in adversarial machine learning (AML) to enhance the security and robustness of AI systems. This role involves leading innovative research, developing practical solutions for government clients, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address real-world challenges in AI technology.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead novel research in applied machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to turn research results into prototype operational capabilities for government customers.
• Plan, develop, and carry out an overall research strategy in collaboration with leadership.
• Participate actively on teams of software developers, researchers, designers, and technical leads.
• Mentor and teach junior team members, contributing to the overall technical capabilities of the Center.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, machine learning, electrical engineering, or related discipline with ten (10) years of experience; OR MS with eight (8) years of experience; OR PhD with five (5) years of experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of machine learning and a track record of conducting research.
• Experience leading research projects in novel areas with limited previous work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in writing funding proposals and publishing technical artifacts.
