About the position

As a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Wayfair, you will lead the development of innovative causal inference approaches using high-volume customer data. This role focuses on enhancing the company's capabilities in causal inference and implementing scalable solutions that impact marketing, operations, and storefront decisions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior scientists, and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D efforts to develop innovative causal inference approaches.
• Work cross-functionally with business leadership and partner teams to integrate model outputs into decision-making processes.
• Develop robust solutions to infer causal relationships from observational data.
• Create and own communication strategies for technical and business stakeholders.
• Act as a subject matter expert on causal inference techniques and research industry trends.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members.

Requirements

• PhD in Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with a focus on causal inference.
• 3 years of experience as a professional ML or research scientist in causal inference.
• Proven track record of delivering data science/machine learning projects that drive business impact.
• Strong collaboration skills and a desire to help others thrive.
• Expertise in causal inference and a customer-centric approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to influence non-technical stakeholders using data-driven insights.
• Strong SQL skills and excellent software engineering skills in Python.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with GCP (BigQuery, GCS, Dataproc, Notebooks), Airflow, and Docker.
• Experience building scalable data processing pipelines with tools like Hadoop, Hive, Spark.
