About the position

Join our Search Marketing and Technology team as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to lead the development and implementation of machine learning models that power Expedia's search marketing. With multiple brands and lines of businesses in our portfolio, Expedia Group has unparalleled and rich travel data and platform for you to explore new ideas and unlock significant value. In this role, you will translate business objectives into well-defined machine learning problems and implement solutions from start to finish. You will partner with engineering teams to productionize machine learning solutions, focusing on scalability and robustness. It is essential to document your work and communicate results clearly and effectively to business stakeholders, product management, and executive teams. As a leader, you will set an example in technical excellence, mentor junior team members, and drive the team towards innovative, high-quality machine learning practices. Collaboration with partners is key to align machine learning solutions with business needs, ensuring that the insights generated are actionable and practical.

Responsibilities

• Translate business objectives into well-defined machine learning problems and implement solutions from start to finish.
• Partner with engineering teams to productionize machine learning solutions, focusing on scalability and robustness.
• Document your work and communicate results clearly and effectively to business stakeholders, product management, and executive teams.
• Lead by example in technical excellence, mentoring junior team members and driving the team towards innovative, high-quality machine learning practices.
• Collaborate with partners to align machine learning solutions with business needs, ensuring the insights are actionable and practical.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in a technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in building industry-grade machine learning models.
• Proficient in Python, demonstrating strong algorithm design and object-oriented programming expertise.
• Proficient in SQL-like query languages for data extraction and transformation.
• Experience working with large data sets in a distributed computing environment such as Spark is advantageous.
• Solid understanding of modern machine learning techniques and statistics.
• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks is a plus.
• Familiarity with causal inference and causal ML is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
• Has a proven track record of driving projects from inception to completion and collaborating effectively with diverse, international teams.
