About the position

The Senior Machine Learning Scientist role at Wayfair involves developing and managing machine learning models to optimize marketing decisions across various paid media channels. The position focuses on creating a customer-centric, ML-powered decision engine that utilizes extensive data to enhance marketing strategies, impacting significant ad spend and improving customer experiences throughout their buying journey.

Responsibilities

  • Identify new opportunities and evolve the spend management optimization framework for new use cases.
  • Build and implement ML solutions to enhance efficiency, defining problem statements and delivering against technical and research objectives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, MarTech, and ML Platform teams to align roadmaps and build scalable bidding solutions.
  • Engage with external vendors to understand technical capabilities and influence strategic roadmaps.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and ML platform teams to adopt best practices for building and deploying scalable ML services.
  • Mentor junior ML scientists through knowledge-sharing and support for subject matter expertise initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience as an ML engineer, applied scientist, or research scientist with a proven track record in digital marketing decisioning.
  • Experience with end-to-end project ownership and strong communication skills.
  • Strong SQL skills and excellent software engineering skills in Python.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments, particularly in cloud-based solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • Expertise in causal inference, multi-armed bandits, reinforcement learning, and control systems.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and A/B testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Google Ads, Meta Ads, or other major advertising platforms.
