About the position

The Senior Major Gifts Officer at Martha's Table is responsible for developing and executing strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, specifically targeting contributions between $10,000 and $149,999. This role involves managing the Major Gifts campaign, expanding the Maz Legacy Circle planned giving society, supporting leadership giving, and leading the Annual Benefit fundraising event. The position requires strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to the organization's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gift strategy to retain and grow a portfolio of $10,000-$149,999 donors.
  • Research, qualify, and cultivate individual and institutional prospects at the $10,000+ giving level.
  • Build and strengthen authentic relationships with high-capacity donors to close and steward high-impact gifts.
  • Create and implement customized strategies for each prospect, including setting and meeting goals and objectives.
  • Develop tailored solicitations for active and prospective donors that align their philanthropic interests with organizational needs.
  • Coordinate and attend internal strategy meetings to define fundraising needs.
  • Maintain a well-documented prospect portfolio and balance contacts for effective cultivation and solicitation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with donors post-gift through proper acknowledgment and tracking.
  • Coordinate with the Development Assistant for timely formal acknowledgments.
  • Ensure timely execution of gift agreements for restricted contributions.
  • Plan and manage fundraising events targeting major gifts, such as the Annual Benefit and spring fundraiser.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Chief of Development to execute event fundraising strategies.
  • Co-lead event planning with the Special Assistant to the CDCO, focusing on fundraising and relationship-building aspects.
  • Coordinate and track sponsorships for events and report on fundraising progress.
  • Expand and maintain the Maz Legacy Circle/Planned Giving Program to cultivate and close deferred gifts.
  • Record accurate data and planned actions in the fundraising database and analyze performance indicators.
  • Supervise the Donor Engagement Associate, fostering professional development and collaboration.
  • Form strong relationships with team members across Martha's Table to engage in fundraising activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience in development, with a successful track record in annual giving campaigns and soliciting gifts.
  • Exceptional ability to develop comprehensive major gift strategies and evaluate progress against targets.
  • Keen ability to analyze fundraising data using CRM databases for performance assessment and strategy adjustment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in managing annual giving programs and supervising staff.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with department leaders and stakeholders to align fundraising strategies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles and experience in managing fundraising event budgets.
  • Proficiency in Every Action or sophisticated CRM system and experience managing a portfolio of major donors.

  • Knowledge of the Washington, D.C. philanthropic landscape is a plus.
  • Experience soliciting five and six-figure gifts.
