About the position

The Senior Manager - Accounting Policies & Procedures at Adtalem Global Education is responsible for overseeing research and analysis on technical accounting matters, advising on transformation efforts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role involves significant collaboration with senior management and various departments to enhance operational effectiveness and support the organization's growth.

Responsibilities

  • Research and document accounting treatment for new program offerings and complex transactions.
  • Advise management on the implications of accounting and financial reporting impacts.
  • Propose recommendations for changes and improvements to accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Drive and partner with cross-functional teams to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Monitor the development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules.
  • Assess and implement accounting policies and procedures for current and newly issued GAAP standards.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, Sarbanes Oxley, internal controls, GAAP standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual reports on Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, and other SEC filings.
  • Direct and control the team's general accounting activities as needed.
  • Adhere to internal control policies and procedures and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Mentor and develop staff members within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Provide periodic technical accounting training to the members of the Accounting and Finance organizations.
  • Support the Controllership on other ad hoc projects and requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Required)
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in leadership roles.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including deals, revenue recognition, leases, credit losses, derivatives, internally developed software, and stock-based compensation.
  • Experience working in a public accounting firm (Required).
  • Extensive experience in systems and process improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Preferred)
  • Strong technical skills in U.S. GAAP and robust managerial capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
