About the position

The Senior Manager, Accounting at GiveDirectly is responsible for overseeing financial management, accounting, and reporting functions. This role requires a solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to deliver high-quality accounting under tight deadlines. The position involves collaboration with various teams to maintain and implement financial processes, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in financial practices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Finance team to maintain, scale, and implement financial processes, policies, and controls.
  • Ensure compliance of funds expended with donor requirements and organizational policies.
  • Create error-free periodic financial reports, including balance sheets and profit & loss statements.
  • Oversee general ledger coding in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Document and update financial policies and procedures in the knowledge management system.
  • Prepare ad hoc reconciliations and execute bookkeeping journal entries timely.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Implement accounting system workflow improvements.
  • Manage the annual audit of the Consolidated Financial Statements and the Single Audit.
  • Prepare and provide support for financial statement audits and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and internal controls.
  • Implement payment and procurement protocols and ensure timely statutory payments.
  • Be accountable for the implementation of the Finance and Accounting Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  • Responsible for the line management and professional development of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in accounting or finance, with strong experience in data analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Professional qualification (ACCA or CPA) is required.
  • Professionally proficient in English.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and strategic influencing skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and aptitude for numbers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the public sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Slack, Intacct, Limelight, and Google Spreadsheets.
