About the position

In Stryker's highly acquisitive environment, the Senior Manager, Acquisitions and Integration Accounting will be responsible for supporting Stryker's mergers and acquisitions accounting and Day 2 integration to help ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP as well as adherence to Stryker's global accounting policies. This role is pivotal in functioning as a primary liaison with Stryker's business development function and divisional finance personnel, overseeing technical matters, documentation of purchase transactions, and coordination with Stryker's third-party valuation and external audit firms. The Senior Manager will also collaborate closely with members of Stryker's global finance organization, finance and training teams, and business divisions to support Stryker's initiatives in training and communication of applicable accounting guidance and processes. The position allows for 100% remote work, although candidates within commutable distance to Stryker's offices in Flower Mound, TX; Portage, MI; or Mahwah, NJ are preferred. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, capable of simplifying complex information and clearly conveying results and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management. They will also be subject matter experts who can oversee the collection, review, and analysis of data while interpreting and presenting various matters as needed. Collaboration is key, as the role requires building and strengthening relationships with both internal partners and external customers. Key responsibilities include leading a team that assists Stryker's divisional business development and finance teams with M&A activities, including due diligence, deal model review, valuation, purchase accounting, and related documentation. The Senior Manager will research, document, and resolve technical accounting issues and complex transactions collaboratively with various stakeholders. They will support quarterly SEC filing requirements through the preparation and review of financial statement schedules and footnotes, ensure adherence to Stryker's global accounting policies, and consider implications of new purchase accounting and reporting-related pronouncements on current policies. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and communicating relevant information regarding new accounting standards and assisting in their implementation, as well as developing and leading periodic training sessions for Stryker's global finance and accounting teams on M&A accounting trends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team focused on assisting Stryker's divisional business development and finance teams with M&A activities, including due diligence, deal model review, valuation, purchase accounting, and related documentation.
  • Research, document, and resolve technical accounting issues and complex transactions in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Support quarterly SEC filing requirements through the preparation and review of financial statement schedules and footnotes.
  • Prepare, update, and ensure adherence to Stryker's global accounting policies.
  • Consider implications of new purchase accounting and reporting-related pronouncements on Stryker's current accounting policies.
  • Monitor and effectively communicate relevant information regarding new and emerging accounting standards, assisting in their implementation as appropriate.
  • Develop and lead periodic trainings to update Stryker's broader global finance and accounting teams on mergers and acquisitions accounting trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience is required, including experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or experience at a global Fortune 500 company, preferably in the medical device and/or life sciences industries.
  • 2+ years of experience leading effective teams.
  • Substantial experience in and working knowledge of authoritative U.S. GAAP technical accounting research and application.
