The Senior Manager of Medical Communications plays a pivotal role in the planning and execution of scientifically accurate communications that align with our strategic goals in the field of cell therapy. Reporting to the Director of Medical Communications within Worldwide Medical Cell Therapy, this position is responsible for developing and delivering medical publications, scientific content, and educational materials that support our medical communication needs across various markets. The role requires a deep understanding of the scientific landscape and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure that our communications are timely, relevant, and impactful. The Senior Manager will lead the development of medical communications strategies, ensuring that all plans are endorsed by relevant governance bodies before execution. This includes managing the medical communications budget and enhancing bi-directional communication between Worldwide Medical and local market teams. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding internal audiences on communication landscapes and publication best practices, while also fostering relationships with external stakeholders such as academic and clinical experts. In addition to strategic oversight, the Senior Manager will be responsible for data dissemination, ensuring that all scientific communications adhere to Good Publication Practices and industry standards. This role emphasizes teamwork, personal accountability, and a commitment to quality, with a focus on mentoring other leads and preparing for audits and inspections. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational skills while managing multiple priorities and tight timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and timely delivery of medical publications and scientific content.
  • Ensure endorsement of medical communications plans by relevant governance bodies prior to execution.
  • Serve as the Medical Communications point of contact between Worldwide Medical and other matrix partners.
  • Enhance bi-directional communication by sharing WW medical communications plans with local teams.
  • Understand communication needs and execute the Scientific Narrative and publication plans.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on communication landscape and publication best practices.
  • Promote principles of Good Publication Practices among authors and stakeholders.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with academic and clinical experts and medical associations.
  • Partner with TA Medical Communication Leads to assess and allocate resources for timely delivery of communications.
  • Establish clear metrics and regularly communicate them with key medical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry with a focus on medical communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategically and drive performance across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in a complex corporate environment with multiple priorities and tight timelines.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading medical communications across all phases of drug development and commercialization.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret clinical trial data.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and facilitation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) and active ISMPP membership.
  • In-depth knowledge of Good Publication Practices and related regulations.
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with publication management tools like DataVision.
