In this role, you will lead the development of strategic internal and leader communications, manage company communications programs, and support external communications as needed for one of Grainger's key business functions. You will be responsible for managing multiple audiences and partners simultaneously, collaborating with leaders and team members across various levels, from executive leadership to non-exempt team members. Your focus will be on supporting the highest priority and most complex communications for the function, ensuring that messaging is clear, effective, and tailored to the needs of different audiences. Your responsibilities will include leading strategic planning, messaging, and coordination of functional communications, as well as managing projects related to message development for key priorities and initiatives. You will create engagement strategies, support large meeting communications, and translate corporate content for distinct audience needs. Additionally, you will provide communications support to Functional Senior Leadership and assist with external communications efforts as required. Fostering open, honest, and transparent communications between senior leaders, mid-level managers, and non-exempt team members will be crucial to enhancing engagement and service to customers. You will also be tasked with creating strategic communication playbooks and templates to help leaders communicate effectively with their teams, measuring and assessing the effectiveness of communications activities, and using data to inform future communications strategies. As an ambassador for Grainger, you will build relationships externally to promote the company's reputation and create broader awareness of its strategy and local presence. Handling sensitive or proprietary company information and acting as a business leader beyond the role of communicator will be essential in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, messaging, and coordination of functional communications and complex communication needs.
  • Manage projects including message development for key priorities and initiatives.
  • Create and support engagement strategies and large meeting leader communications support.

  • Provide communications support to Functional Senior Leadership and assist with external communications efforts.

  • Measure and assess the effectiveness of communications activities and improve communication channels.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to teams managing operational, deployment, and change communications.
  • Build relationships externally to promote Grainger's reputation and create awareness of its strategy.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience providing strategic communications counsel for large, complex projects and change initiatives.
  • Experience across multiple dimensions of communications and a willingness to experiment with new communication methods.
  • A track record of building relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and leading large-scale change communications projects.
  • Experience with both executive and field roles.
  • Experience with external communications.
