About the position

The Senior Manager, Communications at the National Health Council (NHC) plays a pivotal role in capturing and conveying the stories of the NHC and its members. This position is essential for promoting patient-centered health policy and increasing access to affordable, high-value, sustainable health care. The NHC, which has been in existence for over 100 years, is a coalition of more than 170 national health-related organizations and businesses, including leading patient organizations, health-related associations, and nonprofit organizations. The Senior Manager will be responsible for writing and editing content across various platforms and formats, ensuring that the narratives resonate with stakeholders and the general public alike. In this role, the Senior Manager will serve as the primary author of three NHC newsletters, consistently seeking innovative ways to revamp existing content to enhance engagement. Collaboration is key, as the Senior Manager will work closely with policy, programs, and membership teams to produce and refine a variety of written materials, including comment letters, white papers, research reports, and blog posts. Additionally, the Senior Manager will develop promotional content for meetings, webinars, and events, manage the monthly blog calendar, and create collateral for membership and development initiatives. The position also involves leading the content development and production of the NHC's "Putting Patient First" podcast, collaborating with the Senior Manager of Digital Media to create engaging social media content, and ensuring that all digital content aligns with the broader communications strategy. The Senior Manager will assist the Senior Vice President of Communications & Governance in projects aimed at enhancing and protecting the NHC's brand and reputation, and will engage with NHC members through the Communications Affinity Group to foster participation and collaboration. This role requires a proactive approach, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary author of three NHC newsletters, revamping existing content for better engagement.
  • Collaborate with policy, programs, and membership teams to write and edit various content types including comment letters, white papers, and blog posts.
  • Develop promotional content for meetings, webinars, and events, including materials, scripts, and reports.
  • Create and manage website copy, blog posts, and a monthly blog calendar.
  • Produce membership and development collateral, op-eds, press releases, and other communications materials as needed.
  • Lead content development and production for the NHC Putting Patient First Podcast.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Digital Media to create engaging social media content and ensure alignment with other public-facing content.
  • Assist the SVP, Communications & Governance with brand enhancement and protection projects, including rebranding efforts.
  • Manage and engage NHC members through the Communications Affinity Group, planning meetings and increasing participation.
  • Collaborate with all NHC staff and interact with members at all levels.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in AP and Chicago style and strong business writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PPT) and SharePoint; experience with Microsoft CRM and MailChimp is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work well under pressure.
  • At least five to seven years of experience in writing and editing, preferably translating complex information for a lay audience.
  • Experience in health policy communication is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, creative writing, or a related field.
