About the position

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering, PXT Finance at Amazon is responsible for leading the data platform and analytics initiatives within the People eXperience and Technology (PXT) Finance team. This role focuses on creating a centralized platform for standardized people-related performance data, serving various stakeholders across the company. The position involves managing a team of data engineers and analysts to enhance data automation and predictive analytics, ultimately supporting strategic decision-making for senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a widely accessible data lake and dataset platform for evaluating workforce performance.
  • Leverage AI and machine learning technologies to enhance data automation and predictive analytics.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and accuracy of data through best practices and operational excellence.
  • Lead a team of data engineers, business intelligence analysts, and business analysts in developing datasets for data-driven decision making.
  • Guide cross-functional teams on best practices for data presentation and access, integrating AI-powered tools.
  • Provide thought leadership to Amazon leadership and business partners using advanced analytics to solve strategic challenges.
  • Communicate performance against goals through comprehensive reporting and business reviews, utilizing visualizations and insights.
  • Manage a team with a focus on developing skills in AI-driven data platforms and analytics.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with SQL, Excel, and at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or R.
  • Knowledge of data engineering pipelines, cloud solutions, ETL management, databases, visualizations, and analytical platforms.
  • Experience leading and hiring a team of data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and business analysts.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative area such as math, statistics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in analytics/data engineering.
  • 8+ years experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing and delivering cross-functional custom reporting solutions.
  • Advanced skills in data visualization applications like Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, or similar BI tools.
  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, along with IAM roles and permissions.
  • Experience with non-relational databases/data stores such as object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, or column-family databases.
