As a Senior Manager of Data Engineering at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in driving technological transformation within the organization. You will collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using a variety of full-stack development tools and technologies. In this role, you will utilize your expertise in programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python, as well as your knowledge of Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. You will also work with cloud-based data warehousing services like Redshift and Snowflake to deliver robust solutions that enhance user experiences and empower millions of Americans financially. Your leadership will be crucial in mentoring team members, sharing your passion for technology trends, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. You will be responsible for ensuring that the code produced by your team is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and optimized for performance. This includes performing unit tests and conducting code reviews to maintain high standards of quality. Your ability to collaborate with digital product managers will be essential in delivering solutions that meet customer needs and drive business success.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions.
  • Lead a team of developers with expertise in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full-stack systems.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, and work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Work with cloud-based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake.
  • Stay updated on tech trends, experiment with new technologies, and mentor other engineering community members.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions that enhance user experiences.
  • Perform unit tests and conduct code reviews to ensure high-quality code.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies.
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 9+ years of experience in application development including Python, SQL, or Java.
  • 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • 5+ years of experience with distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL).
  • 4+ years of experience working on real-time data and streaming applications.
  • 4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra).
  • 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake).
  • 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting.
  • 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.
  • 6+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with orchestrator tools like Airflow or Dagster.
