About the position

As a Senior Manager of Data Engineering at Walmart, you will lead a large global engineering team focused on building scalable and highly available data flows for eCommerce. Your role will involve managing multiple engineering managers, prioritizing work effectively, and ensuring a strong customer focus to create business value. You will drive engineering excellence, partner with various stakeholders, and leverage data to inform decision-making and improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large global engineering team building scalable, enterprise-grade data flows with eCommerce data.
  • Lead and inspire teams while prioritizing work and maintaining customer focus.
  • Deliver incremental value while solving tactical problems strategically.
  • Achieve automation and internal improvements while meeting customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong technical, people, and operational skills to drive continual improvement.
  • Partner effectively with stakeholders including Business, Product, Data Governance, and other Engineering teams.
  • Drive cloud-based data lake and data warehouse strategy.
  • Measure and monitor system SLAs and OLAs to ensure engineering excellence.
  • Quantify opportunities and measure the quality, performance, and business impact of solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field, or 7 years' experience in software engineering or related field, or Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 4 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • 1 year's supervisory experience.
  • Expert-level technical skills in building scalable architectures.
  • Solid understanding of scalable systems architectures and high-volume, low latency data processing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETL tools and working with large data sets in the cloud.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of accessibility best practices.
