About the position

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering at Vanguard is responsible for leading a team of senior data engineers in developing software solutions that manage and process data efficiently. This role involves overseeing modernization efforts, optimizing data pipelines, and ensuring data integrity while managing a hybrid workforce that includes both in-house and offshore teams. The position requires strategic planning and execution of data production projects to support business needs and enhance data analytics capabilities across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew, providing guidance and training as necessary.
• Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions.
• Manages and optimizes the automation of key ETL processes for large volumes of data.
• Consults with senior leaders on strategies and operating plans, executing and adjusting plans for the team of Data Engineers.
• Directs the planning, prioritization, and execution of data production projects and processes.
• Manages the design and development of software and processes to support large scale, efficient data pipelines.
• Monitors and troubleshoots software and processes for data consistency and integrity.
• Integrates complex and large scale data from various sources for business partners.
• Develops and exercises cross-functional data delivery to support business needs.
• Manages data integrity and quality standards.
• Builds and recruits a team of Data Engineering experts across Vanguard.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of ten years business or technical experience including people management and data expertise.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience; graduate degree or PhD preferred.
