About the position

The Senior Manager, Data Governance is a strategic leader responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive Data Governance framework. This role focuses on ensuring effective data management practices, compliance with data privacy regulations, and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to enhance data quality and governance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with ongoing best practices and business objectives.
  • Define and implement data policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistent data management practices across the organization.
  • Establish, lead and facilitate Data Governance Committee(s) involving key stakeholders to make decisions on data dictionaries, policies, standards, and data-related issues.
  • Develop training programs and materials to educate employees on data governance best practices and promote data-awareness throughout the organization.
  • Contribute in the selection of data governance solutions to support data governance activities.
  • Serve as an advocate for the data lifecycle (CRUD) in alignment with the Compliance, Legal and IT teams.
  • Collaborate with the legal and compliance teams to ensure that data governance practices comply with relevant data privacy regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain KPI-based data governance reporting initiatives to measure success and impact.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on data governance activities, progress and challenges to senior leadership.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the data governance program based on feedback, performance data, and evolving business needs.
  • Monitor and improve data quality through data profiling, data cleansing, and data validation processes.
  • Collaborate with data owners to resolve data quality issues and maintain accurate documentation of structured and unstructured data assets.
  • Define and manage data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across the organization.
  • Identify data quality issues, root causes, and implement remediation actions.
  • Establish and manage the overall operations and resources of the Data Governance team.
  • Develop and maintain data governance strategies, solution architecture, operational processes, success criteria and service levels.
  • Serve as a mentor for the team and ensure adherence to all enterprise-relevant policies.
  • Influence an atmosphere that embodies an enterprise team culture and proactively contributes to process improvement, measurable success and pragmatic change management.
  • Establish and nourish collaborative relationships with all relevant organizational leaders to ensure direct and indirect data governance effectiveness across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in data management, information technology, business administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of combined experience in establishing, leading, and managing enterprise Data Governance programs and teams.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional programs and projects.
  • Experience working with adjacent data organizations such as records management, data privacy, and IT.
  • Proficiency in Tableau, MS Power BI or equivalent data reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) and Master Data Governance (MDG) software.
  • Understanding of data warehouse, data lake, and data integration.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Privilege Management (EPM), Smartsheet, or equivalent Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps or equivalent development/management software.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA or equivalent ERP software.
