About the position

Sysco is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science to help drive the development of industry-leading predictive models as part of its Enterprise Analytics Team. In this role, you will own the technical development of a portfolio of domain-specific predictive models that support various functional groups such as Pricing, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Logistics. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing predictive analytics through statistical, machine learning, and mathematical models on Sysco's corporate data to derive actionable business insights. As the technical expert in the portfolio, you will also lead and coach data scientists to ensure their success in their respective areas of responsibility. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Manager include leading the technical development of an industry-leading predictive analytics portfolio that aligns with key business priorities, such as demand generation, assortment optimization, and supply chain design and optimization. You will collaborate with Senior Directors and Directors across Sysco to frame business opportunities and develop appropriate analytic strategies, ensuring that the right analytical techniques are employed to address these opportunities. Additionally, you will implement data science models and visualizations using tools like Python, Tableau, and open-source libraries. Managing a world-class team of scientists and engineers is a critical aspect of this role. You will be responsible for attracting, coaching, retaining, and motivating your team while leading multiple projects simultaneously and assisting with resource planning. Regular code reviews and feedback on coding standards will be part of your responsibilities, as well as designing and executing experiments to validate solutions during product rollouts and presenting results to leadership. You will also work closely with Sysco's technology teams to architect, build, and continuously improve data assets that support data-driven and customer-centric initiatives. Furthermore, you will research industry-leading analytics practices and recommend continuous improvement opportunities for Sysco, representing the company at industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of an industry-leading predictive analytics portfolio in support of key functional & business priorities.
  • Work with Sr. Directors and Directors throughout Sysco to frame business opportunities and develop appropriate analytic strategies.
  • Ensure the appropriate analytical techniques are used to solve business opportunities.
  • Implement data science models and visualizations using Python, Tableau, and open-source libraries.
  • Manage, attract, coach, retain, and motivate a world-class team of scientists and engineers.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously and assist with team resource planning.
  • Perform regular code reviews and provide feedback on approach and coding standards to junior data scientists.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate solutions during product rollout and present results to leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business results through various use cases of customer-level data.
  • Work with Sysco's technology teams on data integration to architect, build, and continuously improve data assets.
  • Research industry-leading analytics practices and recommend continuous improvement opportunities for Sysco.
  • Represent Sysco in industry events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field; preferred from a top-tier university.
  • 4+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy, analytics, or a specialized analytics company.
  • 4+ years of experience accessing and manipulating data in SQL or NoSQL database environments.
  • 3+ years of experience with scientific scripting languages (e.g., Python) and/or object-oriented programming (e.g., C++, Java).
  • 4+ years of experience with Bayesian statistics, regression analysis, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, or time series analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in CPG, Retail, and/or Foodservice.
