About the position

The Senior Manager of Db2 Database Administration is responsible for overseeing the administration of computerized databases, ensuring their security and performance within a high availability infrastructure. This role involves managing the development and implementation of enterprise databases, monitoring their performance, and enhancing their security. The Senior Manager will research, evaluate, and recommend tools for database performance analysis, while also assigning team members to various projects and directing their activities. Regular reviews and evaluations of work will be conducted, along with the preparation of performance reports. The Senior Manager will advise team members on administrative policies, technical problems, and project priorities, while also projecting long-range requirements for database administration in collaboration with other managers in the information systems and business functions. In this role, the Senior Manager will provide tactical direction and support the development of strategic direction for a complex, globally dispersed multi-data center infrastructure. This includes leading the direction of emerging technologies, proactive software maintenance, and process improvements to ensure availability, recoverability, and performance within the data center. The Senior Manager will manage infrastructure change management procedures for a global mainframe environment, ensuring that changes are executed without service interruptions and continually improving the change process as technology evolves. The Senior Manager will also lead staff in providing recommendations to executive leadership on technology-related topics, coordinating with internal business partners to understand their needs and provide a world-class infrastructure. This role involves leading technical engagements with clients to ensure successful integration of services and developing team members to effectively engage clients with industry-best technical solutions. Additionally, the Senior Manager will participate in defining the technology vision and strategy, monitoring industry trends, and assisting in communicating this vision to key stakeholders. Compliance is a critical aspect of this role, as the Senior Manager will lead Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance efforts for enterprise applications, ensuring that systems are managed according to regulatory standards. This includes leading audits, developing security standards, and overseeing remediation efforts. The Senior Manager will also lead the development of disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, ensuring that critical business services are supported and recovery procedures are in place. Vendor management functions will also fall under this role, requiring regular engagement with major software providers to align with strategic business objectives. Overall, this position requires a proactive leader who can manage complex database environments while ensuring compliance and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and confer with team members on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
  • Project long-range requirements for database administration in conjunction with other managers.
  • Prepare activity and progress reports regarding the database management section.
  • Provide ultimate escalation support for issues presented by the user and client base regarding database issues.
  • Provide tactical direction and support the development of strategic direction for a complex, globally dispersed multi-data center infrastructure.
  • Lead the direction of emerging technologies, proactive software maintenance, environmental analysis, and process improvements.
  • Manage infrastructure change management procedures for a global mainframe environment.
  • Validate that changes are executed without interruptions of service.
  • Lead teams and make decisions to guide the issue resolution process and correct production issues.
  • Coordinate with internal business partners to understand business needs and provide a world-class infrastructure.
  • Lead technical engagements with current and prospective clients to provide successful integration of services.
  • Develop team members to effectively engage clients with industry best technical solutions.
  • Participate in the definition of technology vision and strategy and provide guidance on architecture roadmap.
  • Monitor industry and technology trends and understand customer business objectives.
  • Lead PCI compliance efforts for enterprise applications and validate systems are managed to regulatory standards.
  • Develop processes and procedures to align with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead vendor management functions for major software providers.
  • Collaborate with leaders in other functional areas to define and implement processes and improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study from an accredited university is required; relevant experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Typically a minimum of 8 years of related professional experience, including a minimum of 3-4 years in a supervisory position.
