About the position

Planet DDS is seeking a passionate and hands-on leader to take ownership of the DevOps charter within our dynamic and rapidly growing dental software company. This role is highly visible and influential, providing the opportunity to collaborate with engineering leadership across the organization. The successful candidate will lead a distributed team located in the US and UK, supporting applications built on top of major cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and GCP. This hybrid position requires working in one of our office locations (Irvine, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; or Akron, OH) two times per week. In this role, you will manage vendor relationships with cloud service providers and drive efficiency across the engineering organization by optimizing cloud spending. You will be responsible for building and executing a roadmap of initiatives aimed at creating a highly scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure. Additionally, you will establish and maintain best practices for cloud security, compliance, and cost optimization, ensuring that our infrastructure meets the highest standards. As a leader, you will also participate in code and design reviews to ensure the quality and maintainability of our codebase. Your deep experience with FinOps and cost optimization will be crucial in driving the company's financial operations related to cloud services. This position is ideal for someone who is not only a strong executor but also possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with various teams within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the DevOps team
  • Drive FinOps charter across the company
  • Build and execute on a roadmap of initiatives to optimize cloud spend
  • Build and execute on a roadmap to create a highly scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure
  • Build and execute a roadmap of features to support the engineering organization for upcoming feature launches
  • Establish and maintain best practices for cloud security, compliance, and cost optimization
  • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure using infrastructure as code tools
  • Participate in code and design reviews to ensure the quality and maintainability of code.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience with Azure (required)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading a distributed team of infrastructure engineers
  • Deep experience with FinOps and cost optimization
  • Understanding of distributed system architecture
  • Strong executor with the ability to get things done
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
