Woodward Tahoe, located in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountain range, is a premier year-round action sports facility that embodies a culture of fun and adventure. The Senior Manager of Employee Experience will play a pivotal role in shaping and managing the employee experience and HR operations at Woodward Tahoe, Boreal, and Soda Springs. This position reports directly to the General Manager and collaborates closely with the Vice President of Talent & Culture. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Manager will act as a facilitator, coach, and strategic human resource business partner, balancing operational needs with strategic initiatives. In this dynamic role, the Senior Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies that enhance the employee onboarding and orientation experience, ensuring alignment with business objectives. They will oversee the Talent & Culture team, fostering innovative recognition and engagement programs that resonate with employees. Additionally, the Senior Manager will lead day-to-day employee housing operations, support team member safety and wellness initiatives, and manage employee relations and investigations in collaboration with various stakeholders. The Senior Manager will also focus on cultivating a culture of learning by designing and managing employee development, performance management, and succession planning programs. They will coach leaders on enhancing their effectiveness and mentor Talent & Culture team members on HR best practices. Operational excellence is a key focus, with responsibilities including designing organizational structures, leading recruiting strategies, overseeing payroll and benefits administration, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Furthermore, the Senior Manager will spearhead employee engagement initiatives, data collection, and action planning, fostering an inclusive environment where all team members can thrive. They will champion the IDEAL (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Allyship, and Leadership) programs, ensuring that inclusivity is woven into every aspect of the employee lifecycle. This role requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and strong interpersonal skills to navigate the complexities of HR operations while maintaining a fun and engaging workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Create strategies to facilitate an employee-focused onboarding and orientation experience that supports business needs.
  • Oversee and support the Talent & Culture team in creating innovative recognition and engagement programs.
  • Partner with the Marketing team to ensure employee communications are thoughtful, timely, and relevant.
  • Lead day-to-day employee housing operations with fellow Employee Experience team members.
  • Support team member safety and wellness and workers' compensation programs in partnership with Health & Safety and Risk Management.
  • Support employee relations and investigations in partnership with the VP of Talent & Culture, POWDR HR, and legal teams as appropriate.
  • Oversee the off-boarding process including managing sensitive involuntary terminations, documentation/files, final pay, and employment eligibility determination.
  • Manage and design employee development, performance management, and succession planning programs in alignment with regional and global initiatives.
  • Support the design and execution of cultural programs including orientation, leadership kick-offs, and leadership development programs.
  • Act as a coach to leaders and offer supportive guidance on increasing their effectiveness using management, leadership, and self-awareness tools/concepts.
  • Train, mentor, and coach Talent & Culture team members on HR principles, best practices, and approaches.
  • Develop bench strength to scale Talent & Culture as the organization continues to grow.
  • Design effective organizational structures that prioritize clarity of roles and responsibilities and are centered in teamwork.
  • Lead recruiting strategy, planning, and execution.
  • Oversee administration of payroll and benefits including auditing, reporting, and process improvement.
  • Ensure policies are developed, managed, and updated in alignment with regulations, business needs, and culture.
  • Facilitate conversations around compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all necessary reports internally, to external partners, and to POWDR as required.
  • Partner with business leaders and finance in workforce planning that supports the growth needs of the business.
  • Develop and execute on the Talent and Culture budget for the business unit.
  • Lead employee engagement programs, data collection, and action planning with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Develop a culture where all team members can learn based on individual, team, and company needs.
  • Own and drive IDEAL (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Allyship, and Leadership Programs) support for internal and external initiatives.
  • Partner with department leaders to create inclusive experiences at all touchpoints of the employee lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Graduate level education in human resources, management, organizational development, business, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 7+ years of HR operations and/or HR Business Partner experience.
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience in the hospitality, outdoor recreation, and/or action sports industry.
  • Strong partnering and collaborative style.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and stakeholders by looking for commonalities.
  • Ability to guide leaders to the best outcome and influence through data-driven approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage emotional intelligence when working with diverse leaders.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
