About the position

The Senior Manager, Enterprise Payments Product Development role at American Express presents an exciting opportunity to lead the development of modern foundational bill payment capabilities within the Enterprise Payments Center of Excellence (COE). This position is integral to a large-scale, enterprise-wide program aimed at accelerating the development of enterprise payment services and redesigning the operating model to enhance payment execution excellence. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Product Development and will play a pivotal role in building the next generation of bill payment capabilities that will serve customers across various touchpoints. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product Management teams to translate product strategies and roadmaps into actionable technical capabilities and delivery plans. You will be responsible for developing capability release plans in conjunction with key stakeholders, including Product Management, Engineering, Operations, and market teams. Your participation in the discovery and envisioning of capabilities will be crucial in powering key customer journeys at American Express. You will drive the definition and refinement of capabilities, features, user stories, and associated success criteria, ensuring that market-specific platform requirements are included in global platforms and market expansion release plans. Additionally, you will develop a delivery strategy for modernization, establishing a playbook for the enablement and scaling of modern payment capabilities globally. Your role will also involve prioritizing and sequencing the delivery of payment capabilities within scrums and participating in cross-team delivery planning. Monitoring and assessing delivery and performance metrics will be essential to identify opportunities for improving delivery predictability and time to market. As a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, you will ensure clear communication and alignment on product goals and progress. Fostering a collaborative culture focused on delivery excellence will be a key aspect of your leadership in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management teams to translate product strategies and roadmaps into technical capabilities and actionable delivery plans.
  • Develop capability release plans with key stakeholders, e.g., Product Management, Engineering, Operations, business owners, market teams, etc.
  • Participate in the discovery and envisioning of capabilities that power key customer journeys across American Express.
  • Drive the definition and refinement of capabilities, features, user stories and associated success criteria.
  • Define market specific platform requirements for inclusions in global platforms and market expansion release plans.
  • Develop the delivery strategy for modernization, establishing a playbook for enablement expansion and scaling of modern payment capabilities across the globe.
  • Prioritize and sequence the delivery of payment capabilities within scrums and participate in cross team/train delivery planning.
  • Monitor and assess delivery and performance metrics to identify opportunities to improve delivery predictability, time to market, delivery of iterative value to the business or to make enhancements.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure clear communication, understanding, and alignment on product goals and progress.
  • Foster a collaborative culture within the organization focused on delivery excellence and doing it the right way.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years' experience in product development.
  • Passion for payments and the advancement in technologies driving innovation in the payments ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to drive change, lead adoption of new ways of working, and leverage scaled agile practices to drive successful product development and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a product organization driving large, complex, and transformational initiatives.
  • High-intellectual curiosity and strong analytical and critical thinking skills with experience in complex problem solving and strategic thought leadership.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on shared objectives.
  • Ability to influence key partners and executive stakeholders with excellent communication skills, proficient in developing high-quality presentations and deliverables for an executive audience.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting payment systems, including AML, KYC, OFAC, PSD2.
  • Proven experience with payment schemes and their compliance requirements, including experience with The Clearing House, The Federal Reserve, Nacha, SEPA, Faster Payments Scheme, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage comprehensive compliance programs in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional project management skills with flawless organizational skills and attention to detail.
