About the position

The Senior Manager of Corporate Financial Accounting at Marriott International is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and analysis related to foreign currency transactions, derivatives, and exposures. This role involves managing a team through the monthly close process, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing leadership on foreign currency technical matters. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate reporting of foreign currency activities, making it a key role within the Corporate Financial Accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a team of finance and accounting professionals, prioritizing projects and workload.
  • Ensure proper accounting for foreign transactions, including translation of financial statements and revaluation of foreign currency transactions.
  • Monitor and review system postings from Kyriba to ensure accuracy of derivative instrument transactions.
  • Coordinate with business partners to review strategic initiatives for foreign currency implications and consult on proper accounting treatment.
  • Evaluate foreign currency hedging transactions and determine proper hedge accounting treatment.
  • Maintain and enhance monthly reporting of foreign exchange activity to key stakeholders.
  • Provide training to Global Finance associates regarding foreign exchange principles and methods.
  • Assess the nature of foreign entity business operations to determine the proper functional currency of new international subsidiaries.
  • Analyze foreign currency activity included in Marriott's financial results.
  • Support foreign currency hedge committee initiatives by ensuring adequate accounting processes and controls.
  • Support internal audit and external auditor testing of foreign exchange activities.
  • Ensure external reporting disclosures related to foreign exchange, derivatives, and hedging are completed accurately and timely.
  • Maintain systems and controls for compliance with MIP-66 reporting and reconciliation requirements.
  • Participate in special projects and cross-training opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with accounting in a multi-currency environment under multiple bases of accounting.
  • Proven management experience with the ability to lead a team toward organizational goals.
  • Strong business process and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and articulate issues clearly.
  • Analytical skills to make data-driven decisions and understand complex documents.
  • Excellent PC skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and Power Automate.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA, MBA, or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • International accounting exposure preferred.
  • Prior experience managing a team in a complex, service-intensive environment.
