About the position

The Senior Manager of General & Technical Accounting at SIRTOA is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting functions for the Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority. This role involves managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and GASB standards, and preparing financial statements. The position also includes supervising staff, providing career development, and collaborating with various departments to support financial analysis and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department.
  • Manage the preparation, review and submission of SIRTOA financial package for quarterly and annual MTAHQ financial statement consolidation.
  • Prepare annual financial statements including balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.
  • Responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger close for SIRTOA.
  • Review and monitor the month-end close process and ensure timely reporting according to deadlines.
  • Responsible for the submission of SIRTOA's Federal Transportation Annual (FTA) Transit Database financial data.
  • Support NYCTA on selected quarterly/yearly financial transactions and related journal entries.
  • Handle internal and external auditor requests, review and provide proper supporting documentation and analysis to satisfy annual audits.
  • Work with various departments for financial analysis, accruals, and other accounting related transactions.
  • Review and analysis of new GASB implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years related experience.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role.
  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
  • Familiarity with the MTA's policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the MTA's collective bargaining procedures.
