About the position

As the Accounting Senior Manager - Insurance at Uber, you will play a pivotal role in the accounting team that is at the forefront of the insurance industry. This hybrid position requires you to be in the office 50% of the time, and you must be located in or willing to relocate to either San Francisco or New York. In this role, you will manage the monthly and quarterly accounting close processes, identify opportunities for a quicker and more efficient close, and oversee critical accounting projects. You will also be responsible for managing the external audit and financial reporting related to Uber's insurance operations. Insurance is a vital component of Uber's business model, and this position will require close collaboration with Uber's insurance organization. You will work to drive alignment between accounting and finance for innovative and complex insurance initiatives. Your expertise will be essential in advising on the accounting implications of new insurance initiatives, ensuring that all financial activities are accurately reflected in the company's financial statements. In addition to managing the accounting close, you will also be tasked with driving process and system improvements related to the insurance accounting close. This includes preparing accounting memos for insurance-specific programs in collaboration with Uber's Technical Accounting team. Furthermore, you will manage the external audit work related to Uber's insurance accounts and the financial statements of Uber's stand-alone reinsurance captive. As a leader in the team, you will mentor and guide other members of the Insurance accounting team, reviewing their work to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Partner with insurance teams (insurance operations, actuarial, claims, stratfin) to advise on accounting implications of new insurance initiatives.
• Oversee and manage the monthly and quarterly (insurance) accounting close, working closely with Uber's core accounting operations team, as well as relevant 3rd party accounting teams.
• Drive process and system improvements with respect to the insurance accounting close.
• Prepare accounting memos related to insurance-specific programs, working with Uber's Technical Accounting team.
• Manage the external audit work pertaining to Uber's insurance accounts and activity, and Uber's stand-alone reinsurance captive's financial statements.
• Mentor, guide and review the work of other supporting members of the Insurance accounting team.

Requirements

• Proven experience in accounting, particularly in the insurance sector.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices related to insurance.
• Experience managing accounting close processes and external audits.
• Ability to drive process improvements and system enhancements in accounting operations.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders.
