About the position

The Senior Manager, Media & Public Relations at BWX Technologies is responsible for shaping and sharing the company's brand narrative on a global scale. This strategic role involves managing public relations activities, developing media relationships, and ensuring consistent messaging across various communication channels. The position has a broad scope of influence across multiple locations and organizational levels, and it includes leading a small team focused on social media strategy and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate news releases enterprise-wide.
  • Coordinate reactive media responses across the company.
  • Pitch targeted media on relevant stories related to BWXT's work.
  • Complete corporate reviews and approvals for all news releases and responses to queries.
  • Coordinate media interviews of BWXT staff and prepare interviewees as necessary.
  • Post releases to Business Wire and administer contracts.
  • Maintain and grow media relationships, including an updated media outreach list.
  • Manage media events such as tours and press conferences.
  • Draft and submit by-lined articles to publications.
  • Draft and submit OpEds and thought leadership pieces for company leadership.
  • Maintain and administer media training materials for selected staff.
  • Track media relations activity annually at a high level.
  • Provide executives or designated spokespeople with media training.
  • Initiate and maintain proactive engagement with Corporate Affairs leadership for strategic positioning.
  • Draft and review speeches, presentations, and white papers for messaging conformance.
  • Maintain a list of approved Naval Reactors work statements.
  • Review and approve mentions of BWXT in public materials from other organizations.
  • Develop, review, and approve public messages for various needs.
  • Respond to miscellaneous public information requests.
  • Lead the development and implementation of BWXT's Crisis Communications Program.
  • Update the Corporate Crisis Communications plan as needed.
  • Train staff on crisis communications plan requirements.
  • Coordinate with emergency response plans at other locations.
  • Serve on the NOG Emergency Response Team.
  • Coordinate with Business Continuity Plan and Cyber Incident Management Plan.
  • Review and approve 10-Qs, 10-Ks, proxy statements, earnings releases, and investor presentations before CEO and CFO approval.
  • Review and send daily news clips and maintain employee distribution lists.
  • Renew and monitor corporate subscriptions as needed.
  • Oversee and lead BWXT's social media strategy, including day-to-day postings and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in public relations strategies, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with national and trade media, business partners, and senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and implement strategies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
  • Strong writing skills and computer proficiency, with knowledge of social media.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
