About the position

Bausch + Lomb is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our medical affairs team, focusing on the development and implementation of comprehensive communication strategies for medical affairs initiatives. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our communications align with corporate objectives and adhere to regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with medical affairs, clinical development, and regulatory teams to translate complex scientific and clinical data into clear and compelling messages tailored for various target audiences. In this position, you will be responsible for creating and managing the production of scientific materials, which include scientific publications, medical education materials, and slide decks for scientific presentations. You will also support the planning and execution of scientific conferences, symposia, and advisory board meetings, which involves developing scientific content, coordinating logistics, and managing relationships with key opinion leaders. Your strategic guidance will be essential in medical communications activities, including publication planning and medical information dissemination. Staying current with the latest scientific and medical advancements in the ophthalmic field is crucial, as you will communicate relevant information to internal stakeholders. Compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, such as Good Publication Practice and industry codes of conduct, will be a key aspect of your role. Additionally, you will manage external vendors and agencies, including medical writers and event management companies, ensuring that all communications maintain scientific and regulatory accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for medical affairs initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with medical affairs, clinical development, and regulatory teams to translate complex scientific and clinical data into clear and compelling messages for different target audiences.
  • Create and manage the production of scientific materials, including scientific publications, medical education materials, medical information resources, and slide decks for scientific presentations.
  • Support the planning and execution of scientific conferences, symposia, and advisory board meetings, including developing scientific content, coordinating logistics, and managing relationships with key opinion leaders.
  • Provide strategic guidance on medical communications activities, including publication planning, opinion leader engagement, and medical information dissemination.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, regulatory affairs, and legal, to ensure consistency of messaging across different communication channels.
  • Stay up to date with the latest scientific and medical advancements in the ophthalmic field and communicate relevant information to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, such as Good Publication Practice and industry codes of conduct.
  • Manage external vendors and agencies, including medical writers, graphic designers, and event management companies.
  • Other job responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MS, PharmD, or equivalent) with a focus on ophthalmology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in medical affairs communications, medical writing, or a related role within the pharmaceutical or medical industry.
  • Strong understanding of medical affairs function in the medical device industry.
  • Knowledge of clinical development processes, including clinical trial design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines related to medical communications and scientific publications.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and clinical trial data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex medical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in utilizing digital communication platforms and tools.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in ophthalmic medical device industry highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing medical communications strategies and tactics.
  • Experience with scientific publications and medical education materials development.
  • Familiarity with key opinion leader management and engagement activities.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing external vendors.
