About the position

The Senior Manager of Accounting plays a crucial role within the Catholic Charities Agency Relations Federation Accounting Services team, which is dedicated to addressing the fiscal needs of various affiliated agencies and staff within the Archdiocese of New York. This position is integral in ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of government claims for reimbursement, coordinating audits, and developing program and administrative budgets, forecasts, and necessary budget modifications. The Senior Manager will analyze monthly financial results against budgets and forecasts, and will also handle various ad hoc projects as assigned by supervisors. Reporting directly to the Senior Director for Federation Advancement, the Senior Manager will oversee the Federation Accounting Services team. This includes supervising accountants and interns, ensuring that all financial reports, budgets, and forecasts are accurate and timely. The role requires a collaborative team player with strong accounting, reporting, computer, communication, and analytical skills. The Senior Manager will be responsible for providing recommendations to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and budgeting processes. In addition to governance reporting and managerial reporting, the Senior Manager will be tasked with developing budgets and forecasts in collaboration with Program Directors. This includes compiling and consolidating the Annual Division and supporting Program Budgets, as well as updating and analyzing forecasts throughout the year. The role also involves contract and grant management, ensuring timely and accurate accounting for contracts and grants, and coordinating with various teams for new contract and grant applications. Quality improvements and fiscal management are also key components of this position, requiring the Senior Manager to monitor billing, prepare fiscal reports, and review invoices for accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and supervise in the preparation of originating entries and reports to governance structures.
  • Establish and administer the process to produce the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Manage the detailed preparation of budgets and forecasts and explain variances.
  • Compile and consolidate the Annual Division and supporting Program Budgets.
  • Maintain and monitor timely and accurate contract/grant accounting.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director's Office for new contract and grant applications.
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve internal accounting controls and efficiencies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing for agencies.
  • Monitor federation accounting services employees and consultants' timesheets.
  • Prepare fiscal reports for federation services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a relevant Master's Degree or CPA with 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to relate and communicate clearly with management and financial staff.
  • Ability to initiate projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Non-profit government contracting experience (NY & NYC contracts, NYS CFR).
  • Experience with Lawson Financial System and Prophix Budgeting Software.
  • CPA certification.
