About the position

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller. This role is pivotal in driving our clients financial strategy and ensuring the effective management of our accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of experience in manufacturing and deep expertise in cost accounting. This is a hybrid role reporting out of their Portland office at least 2 days per week. The success of this role hinges on a deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory analysis, and costing methods. The ability to work in a complex system environment is essential. The candidate will need to identify areas of improvement and implement cost accounting processes and strategies. This role requires collaboration with various departments to ensure the company has accurate and timely gross margin and inventory analysis, ultimately driving sustainable growth and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the company's managerial accounting functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Develop and implement cost accounting systems and procedures to ensure accurate product costing and inventory valuation.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing average costs to actual production costs.
  • Collaborate with the production team to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve overall financial performance.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the CFO and senior management based on financial analysis and projections.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial reports.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes as a key member of the finance leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in managerial accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience in cost accounting and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to be on-site at the Portland factory two days per week.
