About the position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking division, you will play a pivotal leadership role in advancing financial technologies. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical coaching and advisory to multiple technical teams, ensuring that they are well-equipped to meet the challenges of public cloud migrations and other complex systems. You will leverage your expertise to influence budgetary and technical decisions that enhance operational efficiencies and functionalities across the organization. In this role, you will execute public cloud migrations, proactively identifying potential problems and implementing strategies to mitigate risks. You will be responsible for developing creative software solutions, engaging in design, development, and technical troubleshooting, while thinking beyond conventional approaches to solve complex technical issues. Your leadership will extend to owning end-to-end platform issues, ensuring that deliverables on the AWS Cloud are of the highest quality and free from bugs. You will drive the strategy for broad adoption of Amazon's utility computing web services, including AWS EC2, AWS S3, AWS RDS, and others, while designing resilient, secure, and high-performing platforms in the public cloud. Your role will also involve measuring and optimizing system performance, anticipating customer needs, and innovating to improve service delivery. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential as you work to develop real-world solutions that enhance user experiences at every interaction. Utilizing a variety of programming languages and AWS tools, you will provide primary operational support for the public cloud platform, debugging and optimizing systems, and automating routine tasks. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding teams through the complexities of cloud technology and ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of financial technology advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Execute public cloud migrations of complex systems, anticipating problems and finding ways to mitigate risk.
  • Develop creative software solutions, engaging in design, development, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Own end-to-end platform issues and provide solutions to platform build and performance issues on the AWS Cloud.
  • Drive, support, and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon's utility computing web services.
  • Design resilient, secure, and high-performing platforms in Public Cloud using JPMC best practices.
  • Measure and optimize system performance, pushing capabilities forward and innovating for continual improvement.
  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for the public cloud platform, debugging and optimizing systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop real-world solutions and enhance user experiences.
  • Utilize programming languages and AWS tools to support platform operations.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on data engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience with 5+ years of leading teams of technologists.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, preferably Java.
  • Strong understanding of business technology drivers and their impact on architecture design, performance, and monitoring.
  • Experience designing and building web environments on AWS, including services like EC2, ALB, NLB, Aurora Postgres, and DynamoDB.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern technologies such as Java version 8+, Spring Boot, Restful Microservices, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience using DevOps tools in a cloud environment, such as Artifactory, Docker, GitHub, Jenkins, and Maven.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and Environment-as-Code (EaC) using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Deep understanding of financial industry IT systems and high-volume, SLA-critical applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS Associate level certification in Developer, Solutions Architect, or DevOps.
  • Experience building AWS infrastructure like EKS, EC2, ECS, and DynamoDB.
  • Experience with high-volume, mission-critical applications and event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
  • Familiarity with logging, observability, and monitoring tools including Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and their interdependencies.
