About the position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate & Investment Bank's Payments Technology team, you will play a pivotal leadership role in mentoring and advising multiple technical teams while driving forward financial technologies. This position presents a significant challenge with a substantial impact on the organization. Your responsibilities will include providing technical coaching and advisory support to various teams, anticipating their needs, and identifying potential dependencies with other functions within the firm. Your expertise will be crucial in influencing budgetary and technical considerations that enhance operational efficiencies and functionalities across the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers who are engaged in tasks ranging from basic to moderately complex. You will be accountable for decisions that affect the teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures. Ensuring successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders will be a key focus, as will identifying and mitigating issues to ensure the successful execution of a comprehensive work plan. You will also provide valuable input to leadership regarding budgetary considerations, strategic approaches, and technical improvements that can enhance operational efficiencies and functionality for your team. Creating a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect among team members is essential, and you will prioritize diverse representation within your teams. Your leadership will not only guide the technical direction but also foster an environment where all team members feel valued and empowered to contribute to their fullest potential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers that work on basic to moderately complex tasks.
  • Be accountable for decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Ensure successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary.
  • Provide input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team.
  • Create a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect for team members and prioritize diverse representation.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5 years applied experience.
  • Experience leading teams of technologists.
  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Proven expertise in payment technologies, legacy systems, and modern financial platforms.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and emerging trends in payment systems is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional teams and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of the services industry and their IT systems.
  • Practical cloud native experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in program management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working at code level.
  • Background in payment systems, technology migration.
  • Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines.
