About the position

In this role, as the Senior Manager of Software Engineering for the Outbound Runtime team at Pega, you will be at the forefront of managing and promoting the career growth of a talented group of developers. This team is responsible for the Customer Decision Hub (CDH), a cutting-edge customer engagement solution that redefines how large enterprises interact with their customers across various channels. The CDH engine is critical as it efficiently processes massive amounts of data, applies analytical models, and orchestrates actions in real-time and batch modes. Your leadership will be essential in guiding the team to leverage cloud-native technologies and a service-based architecture, embodying the SaaS model to meet the challenging expectations of our clients. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will engage in three main areas of responsibility: People Leadership, Technical/Functional/Tactical Delivery, and Strategy. You will foster a high-performing team aligned with Pega's core values, encouraging creativity and innovation while coaching and mentoring team members to support their individual career growth. You will also play an active role in the recruitment process, ensuring that the team is composed of talented individuals who are passionate about software engineering and customer success. In terms of technical delivery, you will actively participate in design sessions, ensuring timely project delivery while maintaining high-quality standards. You will collaborate closely with product managers and team members, monitor client support requests, and incorporate improvements based on root cause analysis. Your experience in software engineering and management will be crucial in foreseeing challenges and guiding the team to produce optimal deliverables. Strategically, you will review practices and results, providing feedback for improvements in development, quality, testing, performance, deployment, and security. This role requires a leader who is not only technically proficient but also passionate about developing talent and fostering a culture of excellence within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Engage and develop a high-performing team aligned with Pega's core values, fostering creativity and innovation.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate team members and provide opportunities for their individual career growth.
  • Play an active role in the end-to-end recruitment process from attracting to onboarding.
  • Actively participate in design sessions, sharing insights from your own experiences while continuing to learn and master Pega and CDH.
  • Ensure timely delivery of the team's projects, while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Work closely with product manager and team members on deliverables.
  • Monitor support requests from clients and incorporate improvements in product and process based on conducting RCA or similar exercises.
  • Ensure tech debt is under control and managed well.
  • Utilize your software engineering and management experience to foresee problems and challenges, and guide the team to produce the optimal deliverable.
  • Review practices, plans, and results; and provide feedback for improving in various areas, such as development, quality, testing, performance, deployment, and security.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an engineering manager, well versed in all phases of managing individual contributors (hiring, onboarding, mentoring, continuous feedback, and talent assessment conversations).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, preferably in a product development company.
  • A Bachelor's (or advanced) degree in Computer Science or similar field.
  • Experience delivering projects at scale using an Agile methodology.
  • Developed high performing teams and nurtured a culture of excellence and understanding.
  • Experience working with technology stack: Java, RDBMS and NoSQL databases, REST services, Cloud deployments (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker).
