About the position

The Senior Payroll Manager for North America oversees payroll and time/attendance operations across the United States and Canada, ensuring compliance with regional laws and regulations while delivering timely and accurate payroll processing. This leadership role involves managing a team of payroll professionals, collaborating with various departments, and optimizing payroll systems to align with the organization's strategic goals. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and standardization of processes across all entities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, guidance, and coaching to a multi-country staff to ensure effective utilization of resources and timely and accurate delivery of payroll and payroll downstream processes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the payroll team, identifying training needs and supporting career growth.
  • Set strategy and direction for US & Canada Operations in accordance with Global Payroll Operations & Global HR strategy initiatives, leading the execution of key North America objectives and SLAs.
  • Ensure payroll processes align with federal, state, and local laws, including regulatory reporting, labor laws, and tax obligations in both the U.S. and Canada.
  • Analyze current payroll practices to find opportunities for process improvements and automation specific to North American payroll and time operations.
  • Promote an internal customer service focus through effective leadership, supervision, and development of staff, addressing payroll-related issues promptly.
  • Drive effective policy development, administrative oversight, and timely communication across the organization.
  • Lead new payroll implementations, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures through management and oversight of data needs and system configurations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in payroll management, preferably in a multi-country environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Experience in leading and developing teams, with a focus on performance management and career development.
  • Ability to analyze payroll processes and implement improvements and automation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with payroll software and systems implementation.
