About the position

The Senior Manager Payroll at Iowa State University is responsible for leading and directing all payroll activities for the university's multi-state payroll operations. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll payments, develops checks and balances, and maintains compliance with payroll laws and regulations. The position also involves managing payroll staff, providing training and career development, and collaborating with internal tax professionals to ensure proper tax withholding and payroll tax return preparation. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, and will be expected to work in a dynamic environment while adhering to strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct all payroll activities for the university's multi-state payroll.
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll payments are made.
• Develop and maintain checks and balances and segregation of duties.
• Manage payroll staff by providing training, education, and career development opportunities.
• Maintain a high level understanding of domestic and international payroll laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with internal tax professionals for accurate tax withholding and payroll tax return preparation.
• Build strong relationships with university departments and external peer groups.
• Oversee the payroll function within the Workday platform, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 7 years of related experience.
• Payroll experience in a mid-high volume multi-state environment.
• 2+ years previous supervisory experience.
• Certified Payroll Practitioner (CPP) preferred.
• Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, Kronos, or UltiPro.
