About the position

Caraway is seeking a Senior Manager, People Operations to join our dynamic People team. This role is pivotal in enabling our employees to be productive and impactful while fostering their growth in alignment with our company mission. The People function encompasses various aspects such as talent acquisition, talent management, retention, culture-building, and compliance. As the Senior Manager, you will report directly to the VP of People and will be responsible for both the operational and strategic elements of the People function. This includes managing employee benefits, compliance with labor laws, and developing programs that enhance employee engagement and performance. You will also play a critical role in analyzing compensation data and market trends to ensure our offerings are competitive and equitable. This position is fully remote, and we prefer candidates located in the West Coast time zone. In this role, you will manage day-to-day operations related to employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans, while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements. You will lead the offboarding process, maintain accurate employee records, and administer various leave programs. Additionally, you will support workforce development initiatives, including training and performance management, and promote a positive work culture through engagement initiatives. Your expertise in HR technology and payroll processing will be essential as you manage our PEO system and collaborate with vendors to optimize our People operations. Responsibilities

  • Manage and evaluate employee benefit programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Develop People & Culture policies and procedures in partnership with the VP of People.
  • Lead the offboarding and exit process, including logistics coordination and administrative paperwork management.
  • Analyze market trends and benchmark compensation data for informed decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate employee records across platforms, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA and ADA.
  • Serve as the system administrator for the PEO, including configuration and user support.
  • Manage payroll processes through the PEO system Justworks.
  • Support the VP of People in maintaining an applicable budget.
  • Identify and lead workforce development activities, including trainings and performance management.
  • Promote a positive work culture through employee engagement initiatives and team-building activities.
  • Conduct regular surveys to measure and improve employee engagement and remote experience.
  • Support the recruitment process and onboarding of new employees.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive People and HR experience, including employee relations and labor laws.
  • Deep understanding of labor laws, benefits, and leave regulations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with payroll processing systems and PEO/HRIS platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite and experience managing a PEO, EOR, or HRIS.
