About the position

Bombas is seeking a motivated leader to join our Sourcing team as the Senior Manager of Product Development for Footwear. This role is pivotal in executing our footwear sourcing and product strategies, ensuring that we create and produce premium products that meet customer expectations. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in footwear sourcing and development, along with at least 3 years of management experience. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Sourcing & Product Development and will be based at our Bombas HQ in New York City. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing a footwear sourcing strategy that aligns with our design vision and financial goals. You will manage the end-to-end product development process, ensuring that we create best-in-class products from ideation through to being buy-ready. Your responsibilities will include overseeing product development, costing, and the processes involved in creating innovative products that meet customer expectations. You will also drive product engineering, technical construction, and fit for each style, while leading the development of new materials and construction techniques that meet our design, performance, fit, comfort, and quality expectations. Additionally, you will partner with the Production team to negotiate lead times that support speedy delivery to market and work with the Quality team to establish testing standards for footwear. Identifying potential risks in the supply chain and developing mitigation plans will also be part of your responsibilities. You will assess and onboard new vendors to support business growth and assist the Production and Quality teams with any product quality issues during production. Furthermore, you will contribute to creating the seasonal go-to-market calendar and manage deadlines for footwear, while also being a PLM system expert to efficiently execute job functions and implement improvements. As a mentor, you will guide cross-functional teams on footwear materials, construction, technology, quality, and costing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute footwear sourcing strategy to ensure capabilities and capacity align with design vision and financial goals.
  • Manage end-to-end product development process from ideation through to buy-ready.
  • Oversee product development, costing, and processes for creating innovative products that meet customer expectations.
  • Drive product engineering, technical construction, and fit of each style.
  • Lead the development of new materials, construction techniques, and processes that meet design, performance, fit, comfort, and quality expectations.
  • Develop product to target FOB and minimums to ensure we hit or exceed IMU targets.
  • Partner with the Production team to negotiate lead-times for speedy delivery to market.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to create testing standards for footwear and approve development & production tests.
  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation plans.
  • Assess and onboard new vendors to support business growth.
  • Support Production and Quality teams on product quality issues during production.
  • Contribute to creating seasonal GTM calendar and manage seasonal calendar deadlines for footwear.
  • Utilize PLM system to efficiently execute job functions and implement improvements.
  • Create and maintain guides/SOPs and manage PLM material library, BOMs, and style templates.
  • Execute product attributing in support of assortment sheet and PIM.
  • Mentor cross-functional teams on footwear materials, construction, technology, quality, and costing.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of footwear sourcing and development experience.
  • 3+ years of management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of footwear construction, fit, materials, product development lifecycle, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Applications, Adobe Illustrator, and PLM.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and globally, up to 10% of the year.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering or related field with emphasis on consumer products.
  • Proficiency in PLM, Google applications and/or MS Office.
